Picking your wedding colours

Some of our wedding clients find it really difficult to settle, or even begin to choose, their wedding colours.

It is important to determine your colour palette quite early in the planning process as it will help to keep you focused and may also assist in helping you make decisions.

Your palette will help you to define your choice of dresses, flowers, napery, shoes, invitations and all elements of your special day so it is important that you select a colour or colours that you like, not just what is popular at the time.  You will have your memories and photos forever so be true to yourself.

Once you have made the decision, it can also be difficult to stick with your colour palette, especially if you have seen the perfect bridesmaid dress and it doesn’t come in your colour!  Don’t worry, there is a window of opportunity where you can change your colours, but do yourself a favour and don’t change too many times.

If you need some ideas for colour palettes, there are some great wedding websites and a wealth of inspiration on Pinterest.

Here are a few things to think about when selecting your colours for the big day:

Flowers

We are very luck in Australia and can get most flowers year round.  If you are planning a destination wedding however, we recommend that you check with the venue or a local florist to see what is in season at the time.  To keep costs down, always use flowers that are in season.

Venue

Think about the venue and photography too – if the venue has a really strong colour palette, such as a deep red feature wall behind where the bridal table would be placed, you wouldn’t want to have your bridesmaids in the same colour!

Bridal Party

Your favourite colour may or may not suit the completion of one of your bridal party.  They are a special part of your day and you want them to feel good too so get creative.  Maybe you can use this colour as an accent rather than as the primarily colour (for accessories); consider going with ombre so that the full depth of the colour isn’t against their face; or think outside of the box – nobody said that you have to go with a solid colour, maybe a pattern or floral?
