Today I would like to highlight a fabulous initiative that I came across recently that not only supports people in our community when they need it most, but… [here comes the organiser!]… it also means that you can de-clutter with purpose.
Angel Gowns Australia and New Zealand are a community organisation of volunteers who hope to touch the hearts of everyone who has suffered the tragic loss their baby. From donated wedding gowns they lovingly hand craft Angel Gowns which are then gifted to families, Neonatal Intensive Care Units, and Hospitals all around Australia & New Zealand.
I had the most amazing pleasure recently to meet the founder of Angel Gowns Australia and New Zealand, Fiona Kirk. It isn’t often in life you come across someone who is passionate, inspirational and selfless like Fiona – and to top it all off, she is just a lovely person to boot! Fiona is supported by a growing network of volunteers across every state of Australia and in New Zealand as well.
Whilst viewing some of the beautiful Angel Gowns, Fiona recalled every bride who kindly donated their dresses and shared a little of how they came to arrive with her. It was a precious time and yes, there was tears…. Fiona and her team are so grateful for every donation and welcome everyone into the Angel Gowns family. They treat every garment with the utmost respect and love, as the dresses were gifted to them with love, and they will be passed on as Angel Gowns with love to the family of an angel.
To continue their wonderful work of this volunteer-only organisation, they need donations of laces, ribbons, sewing needles and thread along with pre-loved wedding, debutante or flower girl dresses which they will look after and lovingly create an Angel Gown for an angel and their family.
Similarly, if you are an avid seamstress, you just have a few hours here and there to support this precious cause (maybe unpicking a dress or two?) or you just want to spread the word, every little bit of assistance is welcomed and appreciated.
